Q: When is West Coast Honor Camp?
A: Camp this year is June 16-21, 2024.

Q: What time do we arrive and check in at camp?
A:
Check-in begins at 2:00pm on Sunday, June 16, and all campers MUST arrive no later than 4:00pm.

Q: What time do we pick up our kids from camp?
A:
Campers may not be picked up from camp until 4:00pm the following Friday, June 21, and MUST be picked up by 5:00pm.

Q: Where will West Coast Honor Camp be held?
A: Lassen Pines Christian Camp in Shingletown, California (the same place camp has been in the past). See the map and directions here.

Q: How do we get there?
A: All transportation is the responsibility of the individual camper and their family. Please be sure to make all arrangements for transportation to and from camp. Please let your camper know who they will be riding home with if other than yourself.

Q: Who can apply to attend West Coast Honor Camp?
A: All campers must be entering grades 5 through recent HS graduate in the following Fall (school year). The camper must also reach the Age of 9 by September 30 of the following year to be eligible for the camp - Middler Camp is 5th & 6th graders and JH Camp is 7th & 8th graders. High School Camp (entering 9th grade through Graduate) should be the age of 13 by September 30 of the following year. First time campers (and a current year Awana clubbers) must have completed any ONE T&T handbook, Trek manual, Awana Journey requirements (including the required Bible reading, training conference, elective manual and Christian service). Returning campers must complete an additional handbook/manual each following year (HS requirements as noted above). Please contact the camp directors with any campers that are below the age minimums for consideration.

Q: How do we apply for camp?
A:
Online camper/volunteer applications will be available by March/April each year. Only online applications will be accepted.
Camp is filled on a first come, first served basis so early application is encouraged.

Q: How much does camp cost?
A: Camp fees 2024 are as follows:

  • 2024 Middlers - $360.00 (Early Bird registration* $340.00)
  • 2024 Junior High - $360.00 (Early Bird registration* $340.00)
  • 2024 High School - $360.00 (Early Bird registration* $340.00)
  • A non-refundable/non-transferable deposit of $75 is due with the application.

    * Early Bird registration must be paid in full by May 19, 2024. Please contact the Camp Directors by email at wchcdir@gmail.com or by using our contact form if there are any last minute complications.

    Q: How do I contact my camper?

    A: Camper Mail
    All campers enjoy receiving mail from home during camp. Be advised that there is plenty of candy in the Snack Shack. You may send snacks (please send in resealable containers - all snacks will be collected at bedtime and stored in a protected area to prevent small critters form entering the cabins). NO GUM please as gum is not allowed on the Lassen Pines property. Mail should be sent no later than Tuesday to ensure timely arrival. Send mail addressed as:

    Hint: If a camper receives a package or 3 or more pieces of mail on one day they get to sing for their mail! We cannot deliver mail which is not sent through the United States Postal Service or other mail carrier, so please plan ahead.

    Phone Calls
    There is no public telephone for camper use and there is no cell phone reception at camp. Telephone messages to the campers should be avoided, except in cases of extreme emergency. We cannot normally accommodate incoming or outgoing phone calls, emails or fax messages. For general communications with the Camp Directors, please email us at , use our contact form, or use our voicemail/fax line at (206) 338-4044. Emergency messages may be left with the Lassen Pines Staff at (530) 474-3160.

    Q: What are the camper accommodations like?
    A:
    There are a variety of camper accommodations at Lassen Pines Retreat Center:   

    • Middlers - our 5th-6th graders will stay in the "Fort" area of camp - in cabins with built-in bunks.
      • Girls cabin are grouped together but separated from the boys' cabins that are grouped together.
      • Two female/male counselors are assigned to each Middler tent 'cabin' group.
      • There is a bathroom available nearby with designated halves for Girls/Boys toilet/shower use.
    • Jr. High - our 7th-8th graders will be housed in the Rawhides - cabins with built-in bunks.
      • Boys will be on one side of the Rawhides and girls on the other.
      • Two female/male counselors are assigned to each Jr. High Rawhide group.
      • There is a bathroom available nearby with designated halves for Girls/Boys toilet/shower use.
    • High School - our 9th​ grade thru Graduate campers will be housed in the Rawhides as necessary while the older HS campers will be placed into the 'Cabins' that are equipped with 2 sinks, 2 toilets, and 2 showers.

    Q: What should I bring to Camp? What should I leave at home?
    A: Great question. This is a printable list of things to bring to camp and things not to bring. And this is what it says:

    We recommend that your name is on all belongings. We find many items each year with no name. Three  weeks after camp we donate all items to a worthy cause.

    Things to Bring

    • Warm sleeping bag (camp is at 4500 feet elevation)
    • Pillow An extra blanket to put over your sleeping bag.
    • Your Bible (the old fashioned paper kind - not electronic)
    • Pen/pencil
    • Warm jacket
    • Water resistant outerwear – [An extra-large garbage sack can come in handy when the unexpected rain showers arrive.]
    • Flashlight with fresh batteries
    • Sunscreen & hat
    • Water bottle (refillable)
    • Chapstick or lip balm
    • Insect repellent
    • Camera (if you want some cool pictures for your scrapbook), make sure your name is on it.
    • Spending Money – Usually $30-50 for the week is plenty (Please bring $1 & $5 dollar bills) for Crafts, Snacks, Go-carts, and Paintball. Some years we have T-shirts or camp themed items for sale too.
    • Postage stamps if you plan to write home.
    • Toiletries (all the stuff that you need to make yourself beautiful or handsome).
    • Plenty of clothes for the week (Keep in mind that evening/morning temps average 62°)
    • Two pairs of closed toed shoes for activities
    • Cabin ‘annual theme (Patriotic)’ decorations (indoor/outdoor)
    • A great attitude
    • A willingness to learn

    Leave at Home

    • Cell Phones & Electronic gizmos (Kindles, iPads, iPods, digital Bibles, etc.)
    • Your AWANA Uniform
    • Weapons – please, leave your pocket knife at home too.
    • Matches/Lighters
    • Chewing Gum
    • Water Guns
    • Bad Attitudes

    Q: What if I lose something?
    A: We have multiple locations for Lost & Found at camp: bathrooms, dining tent, fence at the beach & a large tarp out front on pick-up day – it is wise to browse on occasion!

    Q: What about the West Coast Honor Camp staff?
    A: All of our staff and counselors are volunteers - most of whom are current Awana leaders. There is an application process each person desiring to serve at WCHC must go through which includes a background check and child protection training.

    Q: What else goes on at West Coast Honor Camp?
    A: Lots of fun stuff!

    Free Time Activities
    Lassen Pines Retreat Center offers a variety of activities for the campers to do during. Free time in the afternoon includes swimming, fishing, ping-pong, gutterball, volleyball and go-carts (most of these are free but go carts cost about $5 per ride) as well as a snack shack for their afternoon “munchies”. West Coast Honor Camp offers a craft area and paintball at minimal costs. We also have a special Nature Center (free) which has proven to be a favorite for the campers.

    Zoom around the race track while safely strapped in the seat of these thrilling, open-wheel speeders! (minimal fee).

    Sales Items
    Lassen Pines operates their Snack Shack​ ​which is generally open during Free Time. Offerings vary with candy, shaved ice, soda,pretzels, etc. WCHC will have a sales table with WCHC Neck Wallets (great for storing money & Verse Cards when you don’t have pockets), WCHC pens and water bottles for sale at the beach during Free Time. We will also have special Dog Tags for the various activities for sale @ $1 each, silencers will also be available for $1 each.

    Q: What else should I know?
    A: Here is some additional information.

    Spending Money
    Please bring your spending money in $1 and $5 Dollar bills.Depending on the activities [or clothing sale items] selected, campers generally will bring between $25-$75+ cash for their bank [daily access provided just before Free Time - otherwise, we keep the 'Camp Bank' safely locked away ].

    Camp Theme
    The theme for Camp decorations this year is “Patriotic". Feel free to bring items to decorate your cabin. It will help your daily cabin inspection scores too.
